Just simply starting can change everything.

"It's just that easy." Picking up the camera for the very first time, you can experience an exhilarating sense of joy and freedom that is truly unparalleled and difficult to find in any other activity. Photography began for me as a simple joy, a delightful pastime that quickly evolved into a vital form of therapy. Over the past ten years, it has become my primary outlet for expression and emotional release, allowing me to navigate through life's ups and downs. Initially, my journey into the world of photography was rooted in my love for my livestock. Capturing their unique personalities and the beauty of their forms brought me immense satisfaction.

Each click of the shutter felt like a small victory, a way to freeze a moment in time that I could cherish forever. As I honed my skills, I found myself transitioning into a broader realm, where I began to take pictures of the connections between people and animals during my high school years. This shift opened my eyes to the deeper narratives that could be told through images, showcasing the bonds and emotions that exist in those interactions. After graduating from high school, my passion for photography blossomed even further. I quickly fell in love with the art of capturing moments and memories for others through portrait and event photography. Each session became an opportunity to tell a story, to encapsulate the essence of a person or the atmosphere of a special occasion. Whether it was a wedding, a family gathering, or a simple portrait, I found joy in the challenge of capturing genuine emotions and candid moments. Every photograph became a canvas, painted with the colors of life, laughter, and love.

Through the lens of my camera, I have not only documented the world around me but also discovered more about myself. Photography has taught me to see beauty in the mundane and to appreciate the fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. It has encouraged me to slow down, observe, and truly engage with my surroundings. The act of creating images has become a meditative practice, allowing me to channel my thoughts and feelings into something tangible and beautiful. In this way, photography is not just a hobby for me; it is an integral part of my life and my mental well-being, providing me with a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I cherish deeply.

Ditch the Doubt, Love the Lens

Picking up that camera for the very first time can often evoke a sense of trepidation and anxiety. As you hold it in your hands, you might glance around and notice the presence of numerous talented photographers who have already established their unique styles and impressive portfolios. This can lead to feelings of self-doubt and uncertainty about your own abilities, making you wonder where you might "fit in" within such a competitive landscape. However, it's essential to remember that photography is not merely about fitting into a mold or replicating what others have done. Rather, it is fundamentally about how you interpret and create the art that lies in front of you, capturing moments, emotions, and stories through your own lens.

The beauty of photography lies in its subjectivity; each photographer brings their own perspective, experiences, and creativity to the table. What you see through your camera is uniquely yours, and that is something that no one else can replicate. The process of picking up the camera and starting to create is not as daunting as it may seem. In fact, it's seriously just that easy to begin your journey into the world of photography. You don’t need to have the most expensive equipment or years of experience; all you need is a willingness to explore, experiment, and express yourself. As you start capturing images, allow yourself the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them.

Each click of the shutter is an opportunity to discover something new about both your surroundings and your own artistic voice. Embrace the process, and you will find that over time, your confidence will grow, and your personal style will begin to emerge. Remember, every great photographer was once a beginner, and the journey of creating art is as important as the final product. So go ahead, pick up that camera, and let your creativity flow. You have a unique story to tell, and the world is waiting to see it through your eyes.

I hope to be able to keep writing these and share the stories of my clients, the stories that are theirs, I am not here to tell your story for them. I am here to capture it in the now and how its seen through my lens!

Thanks for stopping by and reading, see you at the next goldon hour,

-Jaime Sweeney
